Communication in the Real World: an Introduction to Communication Studies. University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing Edition, 2016.

This book picks a part the power communication has on the world today. The author of this book goes into depth of the communication you need to have with yourself, family, friends, job and also the communications that comes with all different types of mass media. 6.2 puts everything in layers; how handling conflict and communicating properly with yourself in a positive healthy way will help you deescalate issues with others. This section shows you, you cannot live in the world we do today without properly communicating and handling conflict in ways that can help you and the other person. This section also shows the importance of helping others and not avoiding situations right in front you. If you notice bullying you should help the victim and any way you can.

This section overall shows the incredible ways communication goes hand and hand with the things we experience in life every day. This will be helpful for showing the audience how the affects through the mass media environment, social media, can sometimes have a negative, as well as a positive, impact on people. Through my research I was able to see that by bystanders and people who help others deescalate the issues they are having through their social media; will help entirely with someone who feels like they can not stick up for themselves but also help show the bully they need to stop doing what they are doing.

Section 6.2 Conflict and Interpersonal Communication talks all about the many ways people experience conflict through different ways of communication. This section has many different layers; it talks about how conflict happens in the relationships you have with people and then goes on to explain the many strategies there are to fixing the issues. The author talks about 5 stages for managing conflict. They are; Competing, Collaborating, avoiding, accommodating and compromising. These seem to be great ways to help people resolve an issue.  The section goes on to talk about how the way we take on the issue and handle it is a big way of making the issue turn into something worse or making it better. 6.2 explains the ways of identifying problems and make sure we know the right ways to handle them

This section overall shows the incredible ways you can identify and solve problems in ways that do not need to be harsh. This section provides great examples as to how we can solve issues with mass media whether it be positive or negative. With my research in the section I can see many ways I can provide to the audience with negotiations and the ways you can help yourself to make the media environment a helpful and better place for you to be.

Section 6.2 allowed me to see all the different type of stages in handling conflict there was. Collaboration was a big one that fits into today’s norms very well. The book explained well that collaborating with someone usually ends in a win-win situation for everyone. Collaboration could sometimes even end up giving people extra positive results in what they are working on then they noticed. 6.2 showed me how well being open to other opportunities is.

6.2 overall helped me come up with ways to show the audience how well collaboration with social media can be. Whether it is for self-promoting or business promoting, media can really help put things out there for you. I will show the audience in with my internal and external sources how social media collaboration is a win-win for both the people needing promotion, but the platform they are using also.

This external source talks all about the collaboration between a science organization and the social media platform, Twitter. The science organization wanted to give itself some publicity to the outside world; so, they thought what better way to do it than on a plat form that millions of people use everyday? This collaboration for both the science organization and the platform T­­­­­witter get some benefits from this. The science organization got its’ promoting and publicity it needed and social media platforms are always looking for people to add to their diverse platform.

This article overall shows one of the five ways of solving a conflict. An organization needed help and Twitter was there to make it happen. Through my research I find this a great example on how to show the audience how social media can help the needs of other people conflicts with a positive outcome.

This external source talks more on the negative side of media environments like social media. They go into depth of the many ways social media causes bullying and how it can very negatively impact someone else’s life. This article goes into the details of all the different kinds of bystanders there are through social media networks; and how them choosing not to do or say anything, while seeing bullying happen through one of these platforms, makes them just as much of a bully.  It also talks about the ways people have control of their own account. They talk about the things you can do to your privacy controls this way the people who are bothering you cannot bother you anymore.

Through the research I have done, this external article goes hand and hand with my section ,6.2, and will show the audience that how the way people handle the conflicts can help solve the issue that they are in. If someone is cyberbullying you, you have to make the choice to also help yourself and fix you the privacy settings on your account, or block that person from seeing your stuff. This article will be very helpful in showing the negative side of the media environment but showing how you can take it in your own control and try to fix the issue.
